If you’ve never experienced floatation therapy, you may be wondering what is involved and what you need to do to prepare for your first float.
At our Canberra wellness centre, we want to make sure you get the most out of every experience, including making every float session smooth, seamless, and uber relaxing.
And if you’re feeling anxious or claustrophobic about being in a float tank, we can honestly tell you….DON’T BE!
This is a common initial concern. That’s why here at Lakeside Wellness we have built an open float room and not a tank, to put you at ease.
You’re in total control and have access to internal lights. You may choose to have them on or off. You get to choose whatever works for you! Usually once people realise that they are in total control, their fears subside, and the vast majority will go on to turn off the lights.
To prepare for your float, there are several things we recommend . . .
Firstly, please avoid coffee and other stimulants for at least 2 hours beforehand.
Caffeine can make your mind race or make you too jittery and this will only be accentuated when you’re in a sensory deprivation environment!
The same goes with food – don’t eat a heavy meal just prior to your appointment as this will make you feel very uncomfortable during the float. Leave it at least 1-2 hours beforehand.
We require that you have a quick rinse in our shower before entering the float tank to remove any dirt, oils, lotions, or makeup.
Arrive 10-15 minutes before your appointment time. No one want’s to be frazzled before their float so arrive early and give yourself the time to get comfortable, have some water or tea, and use the bathrooms if needed.
But most importantly . . . RELAX.
Leave your schedule at the door.
Put you phone on aeroplane mode.
The magnesium-rich Epsom salts in the float tank will help, but if you arrive relaxed, the experience will be more beneficial for you. Everything else including towels, earplugs, shower facilities etc. will be provided to make your experience seamless.
It may also be good to book your float at a time where you don’t have to rush. Many people enjoy savouring the peace and quiet before jumping back into their day or into something hectic. That’s why we offer late afternoon and evening appointments so you can go straight home and relax into your evening routine.
